Authority Zero - Bayside | Session Music Video
This here is my biggest project yet! (Now with better audio balancing!)
It was a pain to get through, though. After the update, I basically had to re-learn how to play the game. I didn't realize how much of a crutch the holding-the-stick glitch was, so if a lot of stuff in this video seems simpler than my last music video, that's because it is. I wanted to utilize a lot of the newly updated stuff I haven't touched much in the past, too, like darkslides, primos, caspers, and lip tricks. That was its own set of complex for me.
What's gotten better, though, is the editing. I basically perfected the seamless clip transitions that I used in my last video, but this time I threw in some more experimental stuff that I hope to use more heavily in future videos. The biggest addition was the practical application of my composite clips, which you may or may not have seen me experimenting with elsewhere. You can see I've done it in a few different ways in this video during the chorus, all with varying degrees of complexity and success. Each one, however, required some degree of rotoscoping to achieve. It was time-consuming work, and finally forced me to face the dreaded Fusion page in DaVinci Resolve, all for less than like five combined seconds of footage. But I think it turned out cool as hell.
It also made me realize that my last video, the tutorial about this whole process, was insufficient. It was hastily put together, and I've since learned a lot more about the best ways to do all this. Most of all though, it was kinda awkward because I have basically no experience recording myself. My next step is probably to solve that and put out something more fit to my standards. In the meantime, I've set that old tutorial video to Unlisted, but i've left a link in the video description in case anyone wants it.
A quick bit on the map selection: I decided these two maps weren't large or interesting enough to squeeze whole videos out of, so I decided to do both in one since they're so similar. The transitions going into and across the Peitruss map were inspired by this video: • New Balance "The Second Narrows" (thanks to u/MrBlue40 showing me). It was annoying lining up the skater, but eventually, I installed a program that let me overlay images on top of my screen so I could line it up easier. I like these types of cuts for less dense maps or where panning the camera isn't quick enough or is too jarring, so you'll definitely see more of that from me too.
LMK what you think and what you want to see more of!
Also, big thanks to u/prof_nukeburger (check out his videos) and everyone else who's ever left me feedback, critical or otherwise!
