I used to take classes at LINES Ballet's Dance Center all the time in my 20s and, as someone who still lives near the Bay Area, I've noticed the company/org seems to be quietly dissolving in the past few years... anyone know what's going on?
Here's what I've clocked:
- Dance Center is now almost entirely rental-based classes, with a very small schedule
- LINES BFA Program is sunsetting (though I think this might be partially the partnering University's decision?)
- LINES Training Program was silently closed. However, I noticed that this may have reopened independently as "the training ground sf"?
- They didn't do a Gala during their spring season this month, which they typically do. Seems odd.
- They typically hold two home seasons each year. They recently announced that they won't present an independent fall season this year. Instead they company will be performing with SF Symphony.
- Adji was named "Associate Artistic Director", but they made it particularly clear in the announcement that she won't be taking over for Alonzo.
Summer Program is still happening, but I'd imagine they'd never let it go because it brings in $$$. Community Programs look like they're also still going, but those are good sources for grant funding... just seems so sad that so much of the community has faded with very little recognition of what's happening :(
