Nothing can be taken from an empty hand yet everything can be given. What can the world take from one whose only desire is to give. Those who embrace this understanding become shielded from the pain of loss and failure. Hands not holding selfish desires are free to hold limitless potential. To take only what has been offered and give what is no longer needed, in the end all that is left is peace. Happiness attained for the self is a solitary experience soon to fade from this world. Happiness given to others may be shared by many, it endures for generations. To live a life of contentment, this is something sought by all, yet so few will ever find. Contentment is forever out of reach to those who seek it from possessions, status or power. Pursuing such things is endless. Even once attained they offer little meaning in life, only providing fleeting moments of happiness. It is only when you have come to possess nothing and hold no desire you will find that what you may still give to the world from empty hands is where your purpose lies, finding meaning within that purpose allows us to finally become content.

Rendition of a man

As he opens up his eyes from yet another restless night, the man is greeted by the pain of bones still sore and muscles tight.

Although his body aches so badly he can barely even move, he finds the strength to rise because there's things that he must do.

As so many nights before, it seems the morning comes so soon, He tells himself, "I'll find some time to rest once my work is through."

As he is parted from the comforts of his family and his home, just like the countless days before, and thousands more keep stretching on.

He pauses, looking back at those he loves, the purest joy he's ever known. If only he could linger but a moment, yet he's already stayed too long.

The sadness of such thoughts won't soon be lost as he sets out to start his day.

The morning sky, still dimly lit, provides no light to guide his way.

His love for them now carries him through burning heat then bitter cold, to push his body to its limits, It won't be long before he's old.

A heavy burden that he bears without complaint, he carries it alone—

a growing weight upon his shoulders so many years have come and gone.

Until the day the man will face his death, most likely much too soon, fulfilling all that he has vowed accepts his time on earth is through.

He takes his final breath with no regrets content that he has earned his rest, as every man should do.
