I've been researching Machiavelli for the past few weeks and stumbled upon something that genuinely changed how I see poverty and wealth. Most people think Machiavelli was just about political manipulation. But his real genius was understanding human systems. And the system he described 500 years ago is still running today — keeping poor people poor. Here are the 7 rules he identified:

1. Keep them ignorant Schools teach history, science, literature. But never how money works. Never how taxes work. Never how to invest. This isn't an accident.
2. Give them instant gratification New phone on EMI. New bike on loan. New dress on credit card. Poor people trade tomorrow's security for today's happiness. Rich people do the opposite.
3. Divide and rule While poor people fight each other over religion, caste, and politics — the top 1% quietly keeps accumulating wealth. In India, 1% people hold 40%+ of the wealth. Think about that.
4. Use fear as a weapon Fear of losing job. Fear of not paying EMI. Fear of children's future. A scared person never takes risks. A person who never takes risks never becomes rich.
5. Steal their time 9 to 6 job. Commute. House chores. Exhaustion. Sleep. Repeat. When do poor people get time to think, learn, invest, or build something? They don't. That's by design.
6. Give false hope Lottery. Reality shows. Cricket. Bollywood rags to riches stories. The message is always — someday your luck will change. So keep waiting. Keep consuming. Keep hoping.
7. Make poverty a culture Tell people that wanting money is bad. Rich people are evil. Be content with what you have. God loves the poor. Once a person believes this — they stop trying altogether.
