Reverse Cantilever Mount

TL;DR, will reverse mounting an LPVO in a cantilever mount to bring the setup closer to the shooters eye risk any damage to the optic? I don't care if it hurts to look at, mostly just curious on if it would work.

I'm waiting on a recently purchased M85 to be shipped in, and am looking at options for re-configuring my optic setups without buying anything new. I have a Trijicon Accupoint TR24 in a Larue SPR 1.5 mount on my 14.5 and I like the idea of moving that to the M85 and replacing it with my Athlon 2-12 and selling the gun that it's on since it hasn't seen much use (Ruger American 5.56). However, the only place to mount an optic on an M85 is further forward than any flat top AR setup would place the mount, and I'm unsure if even a regular non canted mount would work to get proper eye relief.

Obviously, once the gun comes in I can measure to see if this is even a problem that needs solving. I couldn't find much discussion on forums outside of this thread discussing its use on a bolt action, probably because this isn't a real issue for 99% of setups.
