I finally started consistently playing with a group of friends and it has been great. I’m playing a Half Orc Barbarian with a Farmer Origin Feat, mostly because everyone else in the group is new to DnD and wanted to play spellcasters. We’re only level 2, and their squishiness really shows. It’s been a lot of fun being able to tank hits and dish out a lot of damage (Cleave is pretty busted at lower levels). I’m also doing an accent for the first time and that’s been really enjoyable (big, dumb, Russian guy). I mostly just use poor grammar and pretend I misunderstand certain things in Common.
We were tasked with figuring out why the Fallen Star Goblin Tribe had been uncharacteristically attacking merchants on the trade routes north of town. At the scene of the most recent attack we were able to discover tracks that lead into the nearby woods. As we crept deeper into the forest I cautioned my group of a powerful foe we might encounter. In character, I turned to them and said, “Remember, we must be careful if we discover a Mind Goblin.” The cleric asked, “Mind Goblin?” It was beautiful. I think it was because I was doing the accent and role playing so well no one saw it coming. I’m not even the Bard, but I was the first player able to deal psychic damage to the DM. And I’m proud of that.
