Today I brought home a 2026 Silverado 1500 High Country Midnight Edition with Max Trailing after an extensive, month+ long, hour or more a day, search up and down all the big 3 both 3/4 HD and 1/2 ton.

The Silverado 1500 HC won out in the end as Max Trailing gives me enough capacity and grunt for my 7500 GCWR ATC PLA 450 (bumper pull toy hauler) without swearing, but has a neutral transfer case where you can dingy tow it behind my motorcoach.

I'm also a Colorado owner (my current Toad). I dumped a 2025 4100 mile Toyota Tundra Platinum to get into the High Country. The goal was consolidation of 2 trucks into one do it all.

The High Country is comfortable and small enough to be a daily that occasionally tows the ATC and rarely is towed behind a big Class A diesel pusher. It's a rare gem. I prefer the GM recreational towing procedures since you disconnect the battery. No battery. No electronics to freak out. Ask me about my destroyed Bronco transmission that led to the Colorado purchase. Ugh. PTSD.

I've only got 70 miles on it taking the long way home, but it's nimble with that big 6.2 V8, can be suitable loud in SPORT with the Active Dual Exhaust when you want it, and rides just as good as the Tundra (that has AVS!) unloaded. It also gets better gas mileage, which surprised me.

So, yeah for me and my do-everything-I-need truck! Looking forward to learning about this truck and what to do and not do with it.

First up, a tonneau cover or bed cap for sure.
