After building 2 PGs and 3 MGSDs, I decided to try something different but still as outstanding as PGs, and found myself in the Zoids universe.

Gojulas the Ogre was on sale, so I picked it up along with the optional cannons.

I am a very slow builder. I take my time and enjoy the process. A regular PG takes around 3 months at my pace. I sand every nub mark cleanly, panel line the inner frame, etc. But this one really tested my patience. I did not expect to deal with that many parts. It has around 1300 parts. I ran out of 5 Gundam pour-type markers (2 gray, 2 black, 1 brown) and 4 Gunprimer markers (3 gray, 1 white). So be prepared if you start working on it.

The Ogre itself has huge shelf presence. It is just a wild beast overloaded with guns. It has roughly the same height as a PG, but the volume is maybe more than twice as much. I had a hard time fitting it into my display cabinet. It has a very savage and raw look compared to sleek and elegant Gundams. It definitely needs panel lining and maybe some weathering.

It is a relatively old kit. The main body is from 2013, and the Ogre version (with lots of guns) is from 2016. Joints mostly rely on polycaps. I experienced some sagging issues, especially on the arms. Overall, it is quite poseable, but I don’t expect to handle it like a PG Gundam. It is better to pose and display it, then maybe adjust the pose every couple of months.

It has a suggestion of an inner frame, but you cannot build it as a full inner frame—it needs the armor pieces, unlike Gundam kits. Sometimes it felt like building a huge HG with PG-level detail.

The plastic quality is also different—not in a good or bad way, just different. You can expect to see some seam lines, and a couple of nub placements drove me crazy, but overall it was OK, especially considering its age. I particularly liked the metallic runners. Even after sanding, they don’t look dull. I preserved the metallic look.

Overall, I am happy to have it. It brings a different flavor to my growing collection. I am also considering getting Iron Kong PK to match with it, as well as Salamander and Geno Saurer AZ (motorized version).
