thought I'd share this article... apparently Arizona and Georgia have been hit the hardest and there are fears it will only get worse around the entire country.

so as stated my son is disabled..he has non verbal autism. he requires assistance in all areas of his life. but because he is 17 he's apparently not a dependent anymore..even though they know he receives SSI for his disability. I was told to get a statement from his doctor stating that he was disabled and due to his disability he couldn't be left alone without adult supervision. well the doctor refused..wrote a generic statement stating his diagnosis was autism and to contact him with any further questions. so I uploaded that with his benefit letter stating he is receiving it because he's a disabled child along with his IEP. case worker rejected it and said the statement must state that I can't work because I'm his sole care giver..and again his doctor won't budge..which I think is crazy because 1. my son has had this diagnosis since he was 3 yrs old 2. he is 17 now and not much has changed 3. his doctor should know Darian can't be left unattended bc again he's disabled.. and since I'm a single mom that means I am his only caregiver..so obviously I can't work.. and it's about to be summer..what job will let me bring my son or only schedule me m-f 8-2 and off every summer? ... anyways I guess I really just needed to vent and see if anyone has any advice on what I can do next ..kinda crazy dfacs won't accept him being disabled as enough to excuse me because if I left him home unattended and something were to happen you best believe they'd try charging me with neglect or child endangerment and taking him...
