Why dont they teach the sounds of each letter in any latin alphabet languages?
So i am a native english speaker. I speak fluent Korean as well. I live in one of the highest per capita latino areas on the east coast, and the highest per capita puerto rican population outside of the island. Im about 6 months into the spanish course. Here is the thing: when practicing with my latino co-workers, i was constantly pronouncing words wrong. It finally clicked after a certain point that the letters, (mostly vowels) in espanol sound different than in english, plus that each letter always makes the same sound,so to read the words phonetically to make it easier.
For example
A - “ah”
E - “eh”
U - “oo”
In fact, i dont even know the names of the letters either. I had to google to see that Y is “ee-gree-eh-gah”
Why does it jump right into words and sentences. Wouldnt it make sense to learn the letters, function, and possible sounds each character makes first? At least for latin languages
