I'm a single parent of a child that will be going into kindergarten next year... and I'm not exactly in the best spot. I've had a lot of bad luck with renting, and it's been pretty hard finding someone who will rent to me because I incurred a high amount of debt to the last apartment I was at...
If it begs an explanation, I can elaborate. In short, my ex is an addict and roped me into a lease agreement with him and proceeded to clean me out financially. It is kind of my fault in a way that I'm in this situation.
I could probably contest what I owe to them off the basis that it was a complete sh*t hole but I honestly rather not deal the slum lords that run the city I live in to begin with. There's a lot of overpriced rentals hosted in old buildings and houses with failing infrastructure, uneven foundation, and cockroach infestations. It almost doesn't make sense to go beg another one of these guys for another shitty overpriced rental while paying off the other landlords... and prices are skyrocketing.
I intend for this to be temporary because I don't want to neglect my child's needs. It's probably better for them to be at a public school than being homeschooled and isolated from the world. I was basically thinking I could save up for a down-payment on a house.
Any tips?
Should I worry about CPS or police?
Am I just being stubborn?
