I bought a (nearly) new Taylor from a store recently and didn’t notice this scuff/warping until I got home. should I be worried or is it wear and tear or something else innocuous?

It’s the backside of the sound hole and deeper than it looks. Some of it follows the strings but also goes with the wood grain.
