I built this app with the intention of helping people protect their rights during interactions with police. The idea is for people to invoke their right to remain silent and allow an AI agent to speak to police for them while it records and documents the interaction. My thinking was this tool would help to de-escalate situations by taking emotion out of the equation and at the same time preserve evidence in the event things do escalate.
I named the app Sovereign because I thought it sounded bold and would be easy to associate its purpose. But when I named it I was not aware of the “Sovereign Citizen” movement or the negative connotation that it carries. Now whenever try to pitch the app, instead of understanding its intention people just think I’m some anti-government nutjob.
