Journaling isn’t actually for your future self to read; it’s a mental “purge” because dead paper doesn't talk back.
Suddenly I realized that keeping a diary or a journal isn’t really about logging things for us to read later and understand what happened during that time.
It’s more about off-loading the current state of mind and all that mental clutter onto paper, one thought after another, just to get some peace. The advantage of putting it on paper instead of telling a person is that dead paper doesn't talk back—it’s just a one-way stream.
Sometimes talking with people feels like eating and vomiting at the same time; it just leaves your stomach feeling very disturbed. Writing lets you empty the tank without the mess of a conversation.
