Should i choose medicine university?
Medical students and doctors, is med school actually worth it?
I will finish school in next year, and I’m trying to figure out if I should go for it or apply to something like pharmaceutical engineering instead.
The thing is, I used to be 100% sure I wanted to be a doctor—specifically a plastic surgeon. But lately, everyone is screaming at me to run the other way. They make it sound like med students and doctors literally eat, sleep, and breathe in the clinic. They say if you choose medicine, you're basically signing away your life, giving up on having a family, and turning into a robot.
On the other hand, some people tell me it’s not that deep. Yeah, being a doctor (especially a surgeon) is a grind, but they still have lives outside of work. They say if you're passionate about it, you should definitely go for it.
Honestly? Now I’m just confused. I don't even know what I like anymore or what I want to do with my life after hearing all this noise. To make matters worse, there’s a new law here: if I start med school and drop out, I have to pay back the tuition for the time I spent there (To understand, I live in Kazakhstan). Plus, you only get one shot at a full-ride scholarship, and I don't have the money to pay out of pocket. My parents can’t afford a top-tier university, and I definitely don’t want them breaking their backs just to pay for my degree.
