'for fun' writer looking to level up my rough draft into something publishable
(19F) I've been writing for fun my whole life, but one of my life goals is to publish at least a couple of novels. Nothing too crazy, like one-shot fun fictional short reads. I consistently create OCs and write random excerpts and scenes. Sometimes I'll get fixated on a certain storyline/worldbuilding, and I'll spend a couple of months focused on that. However, I've recently developed a story that has got me addicted creatively, unlike any of my other works. I tend to think about this project all day and I get excited after my classes when I have time to work on it LMAO. I'm several chapters deep, and this time I actually want to start developing it into a consistent work. It's much more straightforward plot-wise than any of my other works, and I think turning its content into a publishable novel format is very doable.
How does one 'level up' this work from a rough draft in Google Docs into something ready for professional eyes? Say, for example, once my revised rough draft is complete, do I send it off to an editor? What would that process look like? Since I'm a baby author with absolutely no publishing experience, how would I get it in front of publishers?
I love this project so much, it's genuinely consuming me. I'm so excited to share this eventually, but I would rather die than publish something so unprofessional that it's embarrassing and cheesy.
