Dog at deaths door, then not?
12 yo, neueterd AmStaff with history and Vet treatment of heart worm at 3yo. Regular vet visits and vaccinations since I found him as an abandoned puppy of 9-10wks. No other health conditions.
A week ago today, he just stopped eating. No difference in type of food or frequency of feed. The next day, he started vomiting his water. Every time he drank, he vomited a few moments later. He had gotten into a bag of garbage about 4 days before the food refusal. There may have been food scraps and bacon grease he ate, I don't remember. This continued for several days, I was/am in a severe money scarcity situation and was scrambling to find funds to take him to the vet. I would come home from work expecting to see him dead as when I left for work, he was lethargic and depressed. Stumbling as he went downstairs, his urine was dark and very little in amounts. He would strain when pooping and do the walking squat with nothing coming out. Wouldn't eat his cracker tax or come see what snack I was opening. He woke me up Sunday morning with him bouncing and clacking his jaws like the last week hadn't happened. He drank and no more vomiting. Pooped like normal. I gave him small meals, and now he is back to being the good dog he always had been. What would cause all the symptoms of bowel obstruction and then nothing?
