Where do I start?
When I was younger in high school, I always loved taking classes in drafting and architecture. I never went to school for it once I could go to college because it was too intimidating. Now years later I found out BIM is a thing and I would love to get started on a path to become a coordinator.
Outside of high school I have zero experience in construction or CAD software. I am a painter, like portraits and art, and I’m good with my hands so I build a lot. But otherwise I have no degree and no experience.
What is the likelyhood that I can land a job with going to a community college and getting a certificate and starting as a drafter? I looked it up on ChatGPT and other language models and they say it’s likely that I can get a job that pays $75k and up within two years of starting the journey. From starting school to getting a job. I spoke to a neighbor who is in HR for a construction company and he says that I just need to really understand the software because ATL needs bim modelers.
I just need real world expectations. I’m a very fast learner.
