Wedding planner: Lucy Gallagher

Number of guests: 60 (including 9 babies/kids)

Overall: Great experience!

It was perfect for us to have everyone in one place and food/accommodations were great for all. I am not someone who agonizes over every detail for the wedding - so I chose vendors and approved Corazon's (in-house floral and decor vendor) proposal, and then left the rest to my wedding planner and coordinator. Our overall cost ended up being around 60k.

The hotel and coordinator can definitely be frustrating to work with in the months leading up to the wedding, but day-of everything went really smoothly. I somewhat figured this would be the case, so it was mostly fine for me, but I could see it being frustrating for others!

Having a planner was great. She helped me find my photographer/videographer, handled communications with them, and they showed up where they needed to be when the time came! It was truly so easy for me, I had zero stress. On the day of the wedding, I was basically told where to be and when and that's all I had to worry about. Super chill.

I thought the hotel was wonderful. It's so beautiful, there is a lot for everyone to do and see, and the food is great. The property is HUGE, so you have to make an effort to see people if you don't have events planned. I could see a smaller hotel, with only one or two pools, being easier from that perspective. But again, we loved that our guests felt entertained and not cooped up.

It was SUPER hot during our photos (before ceremony) and at the reception. Was still a ton of fun, but just a heads up for anyone planning a May wedding. The ceremony was actually perfect temperature due to the ocean breeze.

We did an outside vendor for photo and video, and in-house DJ. I think if I could do it again I might do an outside DJ or band (I think bands at weddings are the BEST). The DJ was okay, nothing spectacular, and had to nudge him to stick to our playlist a bit more.

Overall I'd say if you are pretty laid back and okay to trust things will come together, Xcaret is a great choice. If you're trying to control every detail and will get stressed about communications/language barriers, it could be a tough process for you! Everyone is different!
