What happened to the undergrads?
Hi,
Current PhD student here and undergrad alum. I don’t know if I just have seen a skewed sample of undergrad students here but the current undergrads are…just not it. The number of students that disrepect profs who are teaching them, the grad students grading them, and the overall institution of university education skyrocketed recently from my observation. This is not to mention, the younger undergraduate students in my lab have such severely limited research and study skills it’s kinda crazy. No one is a pro at science immediately but the willingness to learn of younger students is at an all time low. Most of the time, they act as if they’re doing me a favor by being here.
So dear undergrads; what happened? Was it covid? Was it social media (unc comments incoming)? Or are we the problem? Do you guys feel your TAs/profs expect too much from you?
If the last one is the case, please elaborate.
