Losing my mind a bit, mostly my fault with trying to plan an epic trip in a short amount of time. Typically, I plan at minimum a year ahead, but the stars aligned with kid’s college and work schedules, and we have 11 nights for an Iceland adventure. I need major help with the itinerary. I have done a fair bit of research but the deeper I dive the most turned around I’m becoming. So here it is… we are choosing to do the Ring Road in the clockwise direction because that is how the accommodations/availability worked out best. I mainly need help with the overnight stops for nights 4, 5, 6 (North Coast to Glacier Lagoon area). I have plenty of activity and sightseeing ideas for every location. What can I do better? If I were going to stay in 1 or 2 areas for 2 nights – what would be best?

  1. Arrival day – night in Reykjavik
    2. Drive to Snæfellsnes Peninsula – night in Stykkisholmur
  2. Drive to North Iceland – night in Akureyri
    4. Do we stay in Akureyri for another night, or continue east – where should we spend this night?
    5. Drive toward East Fjords – where do we spend night?
    6. Do we continue South toward Glacier Lagoon? Where should we spend night? (hardest part to find accommodations)
    7. Glacier Lagoon – night in Hofn
  3. South Coast – night in Vik (should we do 2-nights in South Coast area)
    9. Drive towards Selfoss – night in Selfoss area
    10. Golden Circle – night in Reykjavik
    11. Departure day
