I work for a large medical organization with many more severe, complex patients. I work with adults. There is a lot of pressure to increase access. I work at a reduced FTE due to the intensity of the work, and because I have a health condition that flares up and so intermittent FMLA. I am still expected to take on at least 1 new patient per week, plus an additional 1 each month. I am supposed to add in more if I have cancellations, and penalized if people cancel last minute.
I have had several patients complain to me about not being able to be seen regularly, and we really are not supposed to see patients more than once every 2 weeks. I have several I see monthly or less. How common is this scenario, and are there better options out there? I really do need the good health insurance and benefits the job provides. They will not allow me to cut down on FTE even when ADA accommodations were recommended by my doctor, and I only have so many FMLA hours to use. I recently was put on a PIP due to paperwork being late, and so am concerned about being able to find another job. I am feeling like maybe I need to change careers, but I am only about 6-10 years from being able to retire.
