I’m looking into options for my live setup, specifically for gigs where there’s a shared backline kick drum.

For context: I play death metal and run my kick 100% triggered, so acoustic tone isn’t a concern. My usual setup is pretty specific (tighter tuning, more responsive feel), so I’m trying to avoid showing up to a random detuned/muffled kick and having it throw everything off.

I’ve been considering using the RTOM 22” Black Hole Mesh Head as a workaround-basically clipping it onto whatever kick is provided so I have a more consistent surface and rebound from show to show.

For anyone who’s actually used these on kick,

How does the responsiveness feel compared to a real head?

•How well does it translate for fast double bass (190+ bpm)?

•Any issues with trigger consistency or double triggering?

•Is it practical to set up/tear down quickly between bands?

Would appreciate any real-world experience, especially from people playing heavier/faster styles.

I’m looking for a good kick drum head for my triggered acoustic kick drum. I don’t care about the acoustic sound considering I’ll be playing 100% triggered.

Does anyone have any they have found work well for fast 16th note single stroke drumming?

If so, what did you find best for responsiveness and rebound? Any input is appreciated, thanks.
