I’ve been following the recent cost of living discussions and it made me curious about what things were like 10–20 years ago for junior doctors—what was day-to-day living like, could PGY2–3 realistically afford to buy a house, and was it common to start locuming as early as PGY2? Also, which specialties were considered the most prestigious back then, especially if there were fewer bottlenecks compared to now?
