what hormone tests to do to diagnose lipedema and what to expect
There are currently no specific hormone tests that diagnoses lipedema. Lipedema is mainly a clinical diagnosis based on symptoms, body fat distribution, pain, tenderness, easy bruising, and poor response to diet/exercise. However, doctors often order hormone and metabolic tests to rule out other conditions that can mimic or worsen symptoms.
Common tests an endocrinologist or physician may ask for are thyroid profile, blood sugar & insulin tests, PCOS evaluation, Vitamin deficiencies (these may be low), Inflammatory/metabolic markers.
Many results may actually come back “normal” even in true lipedema. Some patients may show insulin resistance, PCOS, thyroid dysfunction, or obesity-related metabolic changes.
However, normal blood tests do not rule out lipedema
