Got hacked through Minecraft as a Mac user (rant and need help)
TDLR; am a mac user who couldn't provide answers all of the answers, such as Device ID (no console to begin with). Anybody in the same or similar situation who was able to get their account recovered?
Was on Hypixel, invited to a party by a stranger, asked me to play with them and their friends, added them on Discord and joined the "Hypixel Discord server" where I was asked to provide my email and gamer tag to verify my identity. I should've known better, I know.
The hacker changed my email and password. Even when I try to log in to find their email to use as evidence, it just asks for my own email and my phone number and Skype (likely swapped) instead of asking to put in my gamer tag to log in.
I got in contact with a person and I got to the point where they asked me to answer a long list of questionnaires and also added that if I fail to answer everything then they will not proceed with the investigation. I'll give some examples;
- Name under account
- when account was made
- Device ID
- Proof of messages you've sent to a friend (text and friend requests)
- The email addresses of several contacts from my address book or messenger list.
These are just a few. I was not able to answer ALL of the questions they asked for but what I was able to do was to provide a lot of screenshots;
- The email of my password being removed and changed--time of hack
- Email of me changing my password months prior to the hack
- My Discord that was linked to my hacked account with my gamer tag
- PayPal statement of when I bought Minecraft (which was through the website and later linked with Microsoft account)
- IP address
Unluckily for me, when asked about when my account was made I couldn't provide that because my email for that was deleted (due to lack of storage) and my Device ID I could not provide it because like mentioned, I am a Mac user. How can one even acquire the ID? I'm not that tech savvy. And I don't use my Xbox account to chat to people, I made it so I could play Minecraft. If I could play Minecraft without needing a Microsoft account I would be more then happy.
Basically they responded back,
"During my attempt to validate ownership of the account with the answers that you provided, the results have been unsuccessful. Unfortunately, there is not enough information listed on the account to validate account ownership. At this time, there is nothing further we can do to validate ownership."
Basically yeah, devastated. I'll keep trying.
I made this post in hopes that maybe someone out there was in a similar or same boat as me, especially being a Mac user. Maybe magically someone out there who was in my boat and somehow they got their account recovered.
