Hi everyone. I want apologize because this is a bit of a rant but i am looking for others insight.
I am a residential painter but i work mainly in high end new builds so the work i do is very tedious and must be perfect. I’m one of our project managers now and i really love what I do. I am the only woman on our crew and it’s really hard at times especially being in a managerial role.
The men I work with do not care about a single thing I say. They barely give me the time of day and think that since they’ve been here longer, nothing i say really matters to them because they already know what’s best (absolutely not true btw)
I’m doing a side project right now for an older man. I’m very certain the only reason I got this side gig is because the guy is my boyfriend’s boss. I get the vibe that he doesn’t take me seriously either.
I am a professional and this is my career. I plan to continue growing in this career and i take everyday very seriously (of course with fun here and there!) but i have no idea how to get men to believe in me. My boss does and he’s been so helpful with my growth but he has a hard time putting his foot down with the other men whether it be about me or something else.
I’m frustrated that men naturally get respect from each other whereas women need to earn it from them. I know this is what I signed up for but my goodness it just makes me go crazy. I just want people to genuinely think i know what im doing.
