Hi, this is my first time having isopods after a long time looking at this sub and enjoying the ones in my yard! I got 10 Zebras from a local reptile store. They’ve been added into a 6 gallon tall terrarium…which isn’t a setup I’ve seen much so I have some questions. Would appreciate any input from people with experience!
could I add a cave like this (see photos 3/4) to help keep the dry side dry when watering plants? My thought was this would give them a darker space to use during the day too (that selfishly I could see), since they are in a window that gets some morning light that I use to warm up the terrarium a bit. My plan was I could add a bit of substrate and some bark and leaf litter, but I’m not sure if there’s downsides or risk of them getting stuck/not finding the entrance well.
so far it seems like they’re not able to climb the glass…if I keep it clean and keep the plants trimmed a couple inches below the top, is this enough to prevent escape without fine mesh?
Other details if that’s helpful: About 3-4 inches of substrate depending on spot (mixed at home with sanitized top soil, worm castings, pumice, peat, coco coir, a bit of charcoal, and some sphagnum moss in damp side). They’re in with springtails, ferns, moss, and lots of different types of sanitized leaf/wood litter mostly from my yard - magnolia (leaves, bark, and flower pods), oak (leaves and bark, some of which is has white rot, beech (tiny branches), and some cork branches from reptile store. See photo 5 for their leaf/bark litter before added.
