Got into CHRIST University for Clinical Psychology but can't afford it after my mom's cancer treatment wiped out our savings — any help means the world

hey reddit 👋

I'm Bhaviska Mendonca, 22, from Navi Mumbai. I just got selected for an M.Sc in Clinical Psychology at CHRIST (Deemed to be a University)—one of the best programs for this field in India. And I'm terrified I won't be able to go.

The last few years have been rough. My mom was diagnosed with cancer, and as a family we did what any family does—we fought it with everything we had. That meant debt. A lot of it. The kind that doesn't just disappear when the treatment ends. Education loans aren't really an option for us right now because of our financial history coming out of that period, and I don't have savings to fall back on.

But here's why I can't let this opportunity go —

I want to work with people who are struggling. Not the easy cases. The ones society looks away from—people dealing with severe mental illness, trauma, addiction, and grief. I know what it feels like to watch someone you love suffer and feel powerless. That experience didn't break me; it gave me a lens. And I want to spend my career using it.

Clinical Psychology in India is still fighting stigma every single day. The people who train for this—who have the depth and the rigor to sit with someone in their darkest moments and not flinch—I have so much respect for them. I want to be one of them.

I'm not asking for a handout. I'm asking for a chance.

If even a small amount from enough people comes through, I can confirm my seat and start this journey. Every rupee genuinely counts. Please do send me a DM so i could share my account details!

If you can't donate, sharing this costs nothing and means everything. Thank you for reading this far. 🤍
