Updating my deck
Good evening,
I have a couple of questions regarding updating my deck.
Im sure itll vary state by state so for starters im in michigan. My home was built in 2000 and im on a hill so my deck is more of a second level structure. That said i want to replace my boards and rail posts(previous owner painted them). Problem is my posts currently are notched 4x4s sitting on the outside of my deck.
I planned to do cable railings however i believe if i "touch" the railings the entire thing needs to be brought up to code. Am i correct in this mindset?
If so, whats easier/better/allowed? A complete 4x4 on the outside secured by 3+ lags, or do i need to block it on the interior if the deck frame?
Hard to find black and white for my city/locality.
