Coworker friends with students outside of school
Can someone tell me if I’m right for being weirded out?
My coworker (F, 6th grade teacher) has an odd relationship with a lot of the girls in our grade. It’s almost like she’s in their friend group. They have a groupchat on TikTok where they communicate daily, especially after school hours. All kinds of things are discussed from couples, to “tea”. The children apparently cuss a lot in the chat too. (I know this because she’s told me)
She definitely gives these students special treatment too. I’ve seen her give silent lunch to one student for not doing their homework then excusing two students (who are in the groupchat) for not having their homework.
She also created field trip groups for a trip we will be taking soon. She put herself as the group leader for all of the students in that groupchat. They’re actively talking about the field trip in the TikTok groupchat. The kids had asked me to join the groupchat a while back but I said no. They even found my socials through her page.
I feel that this is very weird and inappropriate but I’m also not sure if I’m just looking to deep into it. Thoughts?
