My friend was walking their dog just now by the Harlem Meer on this gorgeous day and had an unfortunate encounter with this idiot. They asked me to post this since they aren’t on Reddit:

“When I prevented this man’s off-leash female border collie from sneaking up on my leashed dog in the park (by putting my legs between the dogs), he shouted “don’t touch my dog, bitch.” I calmly said that I didn’t, and asked him to leash his dog, which didn’t go well because he became extremely defensive and got in my space which is when I snapped the pic where you can clearly see he has a leash around his neck… He then started filming and following me and my dog, making up his own narrative for the video, calling me racist Karen, saying I called him the N word, all sorts of BS. He finally ran off to the south when we got close to the Davis Center bc rangers typically hang out and he probably knows that too, but still trying to antagonize me the whole way, shouting expletives. I did try to find a ranger nearby but only the conservatory landscapers were around, but they said they would send the pic to the rangers. So please be aware next time you’re around here incase this asshole and his untrained dog are around.”

They didn’t want to file a police report, but I encouraged them to if they happen to see this man with an off leash dog again.

Whatever happened to Park Rangers ticketing owners with off leash dogs outside of off leash hours? People seem to get ticketed frequently in the parks in Brooklyn when I used to live there a few years ago, but not Central Park. Dog attacks have been on the rise, and while my friend was not concerned for their or their dog’s safety in this instance, if that off-leash border collie had successfully snuck up on a reactive dog, it could have ended very, very badly.

Also, if you ever have your dog off leash in a park when it’s not allowed, and someone asks you to leash your dog, fucking leash your dog!!!
