Moving up from a Square: GW9400 vs GPR-H1000 (and Mudmaster confusion?)
Hey everyone,
I’ve been rocking a standard Casio Square (GW5000U-1) for a while, but my job and lifestyle are starting to demand a bit more from my gear. I work outdoors consistently—running ropes courses, archery ranges, bit of kayaking, day hikes and indoor rock climbing. I also bike to work and spend time leading overnight camps up near Hetch Hetchy, where we swim, hike, and all of the above.
I’m looking for something that won't be a pain to maintain. I’m currently looking at:
My Questions:
• Charging: I really don’t want to be tethered to a cable. For the GPR-H1000, can it run indefinitely on Solar alone (like the 9400)? Or is the cable still a requirement?
• Mudmasters: I’ve skimmed them but there are so many models. I need Multiband 6, Solar, ABC sensors, and 20 Bar WR. Is there a specific Mudmaster that fits those specs and is "thin" enough for climbing/archery? How often do these need to be manually charger?
• Digital vs Analog: I don’t have a strong preference, but for those of you who work with gear (ropes/carabiners), do you find the Analog hands/protruding crowns of the Mudmasters get in the way more than the Digital Rangeman?
Final note: The H1000 intrigued me with the Strava compatibility, as I am training for a sprint triathlon, but I don’t think its a necessity.
Any insights from people who actually work in the dirt/water/rocks would be huge. Thanks!
