Someone at my university told me that my tattoo looks like a white supremacist symbol
I have a Celtic knot armband tattoo on my upper arm that I got years ago after my mom died. She loved Celtic mythology, and for me the armband symbolized grief, memory, and connection to her.
A few years ago, someone at university told me they only associate Celtic symbols with far-right / white supremacist groups, and ever since then I’ve become extremely self-conscious about it. I’m politically left-wing myself, but now I constantly hide the tattoo in public and avoid wearing tops because I’m scared people will misunderstand me.
Recently I also came across discussions online connecting certain “Celtic/Germanic” imagery to right-wing pagan scenes, which made my anxiety even worse.
Now I genuinely don’t know if I’m overthinking this or if I should consider a cover-up/removal....
