My conditional green card expires June 20th. I am planning to file Form I751 (removal of conditions, married couple joint filing) together with Form I912 fee waiver request before that date. I have two urgent questions:

Question 1: If I mail/file the I751 + I912 package before my GC expiration date and do not receive a decision until after that date, and the fee waiver gets denied, am I out of status? Or does the act of filing before expiration protect me regardless of the fee waiver outcome? If denied, do I have a grace period to pay the fee and resubmit without consequences?

Question 2: I’ve read that if filing with an I912 fee waiver, I751 must be mailed. Is this accurate and if so, why? Is there really no way to file the I751 + I912 together online?

My situation: Florida resident. Filing based on financial hardship.
