I got frustrated that most online calculators either use outdated SARS brackets, don't account for SA-specific costs, or are buried behind email capture forms. So I built sacalc.co.za - 8 free calculators, no sign-up required.
What's on it:
- Bond Repayment - monthly payment, total interest, full amortisation schedule. Includes extra payment and lump sum scenarios so you can see exactly how much time and interest you save.
- Transfer Duty - uses the updated Feb 2026 thresholds (R1.21M exemption). Includes the VAT toggle for new-build purchases.
- Bond Affordability - shows both the 25% recommended cap and the 30% bank maximum, plus your debt-to-income ratio.
- Extra Payment - shows months and rands saved by paying more each month.
- Access Bond - compares parking a lump sum in an access bond vs a savings account vs investing it.
- PAYE Tax - 2026/2027 brackets, medical aid credits, pension/RA deductions, travel allowance (80% taxable rule), UIF.
- Rent vs Buy - accounts for transfer duty, conveyancing, and bond registration costs upfront, then models year-by-year wealth for both scenarios.
- Rental Yield - gross and net yield with vacancy, management fees, and benchmarks vs prime and equities.
All rates (prime at 11.25%, repo at 7.75%) are verified against SARB and updated when they change.
Would love feedback - especially if anything looks off on the calculations.
