Just a quick notice. First time posting on Reddit. Idk if Im doing this right.

so I was trying to see how much my Rolex Cellini 5330 sells for. I walk into a jewelry shop and asked if he buys watches to which they responded yes so I had over that my watch, and he had to take it to another building To have it authenticated, he opened it up measured it with his tools. Then tells me that the buckle and sapphire are aftermarket And some engravings are missing, So he estimates the melt value for the 18 karat white gold at 22 grams and adds a $300 premium on top.

now, keep in mind the watch is pretty used and it was given to me as a gift for my uncle. I also already authenticated it with two separate watch makers Who both told me it’s indeed a Rolex with Rolex movements . So I mainly just walked in there to see if you could sell it for a pretty penny, just for fun.

I thought the price was pretty fair given the overall condition of it and I also asked if he’d like to trade. To which he offered a choice of one of these two watches, I have attached on the image. An omega or a Tudor

Then I figured I’d walk around and do some market research and see if anybody else were willing to offer anything. unfortunately i had my heart completely shattered by this one watch dealer who took my watch looked at it through a magnifying glass for a split second and instantly said it was an imitation.

I tried explaining to him with the previous watch dealer told me how the sapphire glass was aftermarket, and that’s why it was missing some engravings but he didn’t buy it at all, and just told me to get the f**k out his store.

I don’t know why, but that really stung. maybe Im just sensitive person, and tbh was having a pretty bad day, but having something so sentimental just treated like trash in front of me even after an explanation hurt bad honestly.

Showed it to another person and he told me he doesn’t buy Cellinis which is cool. Can’t blame him if he thinks there’s no money it it.

I don’t know if this is the right place to ask this but overall, what do you think of the situation is it pretty normal in the watch selling world?

do you think I should sell the watch/trade or a hold onto it for 10 years enjoy it and then maybe hope to sell it for melt value of the future If I need the extra bread.

TLDR: walked into a couple shops with my Rolex Cellini 5330 got some offers and got a bit too sensitive when somebody called it out as an imitation. Should I trade/sell it to the seller who made offers? He said he could trade it for either A Tudor or an omega. I’m perfectly fine wearing it as is too. But what do you think of the offers?
