Need help my cat nail is bleeding a lot after I trimmed it

While I was trimming his claws I accidentally cut to far and it’s been bleeding quite a lot. I tried soap, I tried cornstarch, a warm wet rag, warm water all I could try at home. It’s still bleeding, he is rn licking and trying to clean it himself? I think that might be a good sign? What should I do should I take him to the vet (I really don’t want to do this but will if necessary) what should I be looking out for like can this cause I more serious issue?!
