I received the dreaded news that my role was eliminated today. I had only been with the company for 6 months after searching for several months for a new job because my previous role was also eliminated. (I work in marketing and it’s been a tough couple of years).

I’m devastated. I have no savings because I burned through it trying to stay afloat last year. We have two small children and a hefty mortgage payment because we bought our first home in early 2025 (literally moved in the day before my first layoff). We’ll lose our health insurance at the end of the month and COBRA feels astronomically high. My partner has a good job, but it’s not exactly stable either.

I’m distraught, lost, and so confused as to what to do next. Having just gone through this, I know what it takes to find a job and now the job market is flooded with people who’ve also been laid off.

Running is my hobby but so much more. I hope I can find the motivation to stick with it while I navigate this because I know it’ll help my mental and physical health , but I’m scared I’ll sink into depression and fall away from it.

Has anyone been through this and have advice?

I just needed a safe space to vent and this is one of my favorite corners of the internet.
