How Valuable Is a J.P. Morgan Off-Cycle IB Internship?

How Valuable Is a J.P. Morgan Off-Cycle IB Internship?

I recently received a HireVue invitation for a J.P. Morgan Corporate & Investment Bank - Global Investment Banking Off-Cycle Internship in Istanbul.

I’m from a non-target background and originally thought this would be completely out of reach, so I’m trying to understand how valuable/prestigious these off-cycle IB internships actually are compared to traditional summer internships.

I’ve seen mixed opinions online. Some people say off-cycles are mostly “cheap labor” and much less respected than summers, while others say they’re still highly competitive and can open doors to analyst roles later on.

Would this actually be a strong CV experience worth taking very seriously, especially for someone trying to break into high finance from a non-traditional path?

After waiting for almost a month with no update following my manager interview for a Big4 Audit New Grad role, I finally asked someone internally to check my status with HR.

The feedback I got was that they already identified some primary candidates first, but the hiring process is still ongoing and I can still be evaluated until the very end of the recruitment period. So from my understanding, I’m currently more of a backup/waitlisted candidate rather than fully rejected.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation after the final/manager interview and still ended up getting an offer later?

I’m 26 and recently graduated with a degree in Economics. I also have a short internship experience in SAP FI, so I’m not coming in completely blind to financial systems.

For the past few months, I’ve been actively applying to entry-level roles in finance (audit, financial analyst, etc.), mostly targeting Big4 and similar firms. I’ve made it to some interview stages (even advanced rounds before), but I keep getting rejected in the end or just don’t hear back at all.

It’s starting to feel like I’m stuck in that loop where I need experience to get a job, but I can’t get experience without already having one.

I’m open to different paths within finance, but I’m trying to build a solid foundation that could eventually lead to roles like financial analyst or even corporate finance in the long run.

At this point, I’m questioning whether I’m doing something wrong in my approach, or if this is just how the market is right now.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? What helped you break through?

I recently had a manager interview for an Audit entry-level role at Deloitte. The interview itself went fairly well from my perspective and the conversation felt positive overall.

However, it has now been about 3 weeks and I still haven't received any update from HR.

When I searched online and on Reddit, most people seem to say that if they like you, you usually hear back within a few days or within a week at most. Because of that, I'm starting to wonder if the long silence is generally a negative signal.

For those who have gone through Big4 recruitment processes (especially audit roles), how long did it take for you to hear back after the manager interview?

Is waiting 3 weeks without any update typically a bad sign, or is this kind of delay sometimes normal in Big4 hiring processes?

Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences.
