Is the guy who repaired these BSing me?
I took these boots in because the rubber tread came loose and the guy said he could just glue them back on. When I got them back, I noticed he shaved some material off the foam midsole. He said he had to because the rubber “expanded”. However, I kinda think he just didn’t get the tread back on straight. Also, that rubber would expand for no apparent reason seems unlikely to me.
I’m no physicist, but it seems odd that the rubber expanded in one direction and contracted in the other. Especially since the rubber tread still seemed to fit perfectly the night before I took the boots in.
It’s not really that big of a deal, but I got a little annoyed because I think he screwed up and doesn’t want to own up to it. Also, he told me that I’m “nitpicking.” And he may be right to some degree, but I also paid him money to do this. Had I known this would be the product, I may have just bought a new pair. Also, if it’s the rubber that expanded, why cut the foam midsole??
I’m interested to hear whether or not I’m the idiot in this case. I understand I’m ignorant in a lot of ways (for instance, boot repair), but his reasons came off as problematic and his attitude was immediately defensive. Had he just said “yeah, they unfortunately didn’t go back on quite as good as I was hoping” I would’ve been fine with that.
For info, the boots are GoRuck MACV’s. The rubber tread started coming off shortly after I bought them. I contacted GoRuck and they immediately sent me a brand new pair that have been phenomenal. All in all, not counting these, I own 4 pairs of boots from this company. All of which have also been phenomenal.
