Hi everyone,
I’m planning to switch from Arch to Artix and wanted to get some advice before diving in. The recent direction systemd has been taking, especially around privacy and verification stuff, finally pushed me to make the move. I’m in Mexico, but honestly this is more about sticking to a minimal system and having full control over my init setup.
I’d like to migrate my current workflow without breaking everything in the process, so any tips or experiences would really help.
My current setup:
- Asus Vivobook 14, Intel i5-1235U, Iris Xe Graphics, 16 RAM, 512 SSD
- WM: Niri (Wayland)
- Shell/UI: Dank Material Shell (DMS)
What I mainly use my system for:
- Music production: I work a lot with Bitwig Studio, Mixxx, and Reaper. I’m especially interested in how people handle PipeWire or JACK on Artix without relying on systemd user services.
- Gaming: I use Steam and also do some emulation through Flatpak. Are there any Artix-specific things (like lib32 or elogind quirks) I should watch out for to keep Proton running smoothly?
- General use: Browsing, office stuff, nothing too fancy.
What I’m trying to figure out:
- Are there any “gotchas” when moving a Niri/DMS setup over to Artix?
- Which service manager tends to work best with Wayland-heavy setups: runit, s6, or OpenRC?
- Any advice for avoiding dependency issues with AUR packages (especially audio-related ones) that might expect systemd-libs?
Thanks in advance for any guidance or shared experiences
