(Google Translate):

Hi everyone! If you are using a Kinect V2 as a webcam in OBS, you’ve probably noticed that it often drops to 15 FPS in low light or "Auto" mode. I found a way to "trick" the plugin to maintain a constant 30 FPS with good brightness.

Prerequisites:

Steps to unlock 30 FPS:

  1. Avoid source conflict: Delete any "Video Capture Device" source using the Kinect before adding the "Kinect" source.
  2. Initial Setup: In the Kinect source properties, set Exposure Mode to Semi-Automatic.
  3. The Trigger: Set Exposure Time to exactly 25.00. You will notice the motion becomes much smoother immediately.
  4. Manual Override: Change Exposure Mode to Manual.
  5. Max Brightness: Now that the 30 FPS is "locked," increase Analog Gain, Digital Gain, and Exposure Integration Time to their maximum values to get the best light possible without losing frames.
  6. Regional Tip (Europe): If you are in Spain or Europe, set Powerline Frequency to 50Hz to avoid flickering with your room lights.

Why this works? The Kinect V2 officially supports 1080p @ 30Hz. Usually, the firmware drops the FPS to gain more exposure time in dark rooms. By using the Semi-Auto to Manual hop, you force the sensor to prioritize the refresh rate while manually pushing the gain to keep the image bright.

Hope this helps someone! This sensor is still a beast for background removal (Faux Green Screen) when running at full speed.
