... why are they not getting addressed?
Before I start my little soap box / error log post, let me state how happy I am that we have Bricklink. It's a great ressource. It's an indispensable database. It allowed me to enjoy an old hobby with the means and aspirations I have now as an adult. If I complain, I want to lay out how easely Bricklink could be better, not that it's bad.
Without any specific order, here are a few easy to spot and not that hard to fix problems anyone who uses Bricklink spots pretty quickly.
* If I download a wanted list, I get a HTML file. If I want to upload a wanted list, I can't use a HTML file. Yes, I know the work around. But it's laughable that I can't use the file format Bricklink uses for their downloads to upload.
* I can't use the Bricklink download file to upload on lego.com to search their pick a brick store. I have to upload the bricklink file on rebrickable to convert it. How many years has it been, since lego bought Bricklink? 6 years?
* If I set up a wanted list, it doesn't show how many parts are included.
* Easy buy is horrendous. I set up a 130 lot/700 part searchlist, clicked easy buy and got the quick and easy buy at 500 €. Any kind of search tool Bricklink offers is just strait up horrible. I'm confident that I will be able to push the price down to 150-180 € by combining pick a brick, weeding out trap stores and optimizing the bad algorithms by hand.
* Why is Bricklink the bad buyers experience? The answer is pretty easy. The algorithm doesn't take into account handling fees, overpriced rare single items and shipping costs. What you get in the consequence are either bad actors or ... shops following the incentives. Bricklink in general is a sellers paradise. Min. lot sizes, min. prices, min. order price - it's like they asked and added for every conceivable seller feature, while disregarding their core audience: Buyer. Just to do a quick comparison. If you sell magic cards on Cardmarket you can only list your product and price. There is no minimum order. There is no way to set your own S&H fees. Those are automatically calculated based on known shipping rates and handling/material fees are also automatically set. No room to wiggle, manipulate or "optimize" the algorithms. Run their shopping algorith 2-3 times and you have the cheapest option. But even running it once yields a result that is within 10% of what you can optimize. So either bricklink gets their algorithm to optimize price including all factors. Or they have to shave back factors to optimize for their algorithm.
* Why is there not a pick a brick lego.com integration? I know - out of all the points its the one thats the most "nice to have" - but Jesus. There are so many parts cheaper on Pick a Brick compared to the average used or new price for a part. And it's so easy to get Pick a brick to a point where there are no S&H fees.
I would love to be an intern for a day or week at Bricklink just to ask why they ... don't tackle any of those issues.
