Just acquired a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser UZJ100 — what do I need to know? First suggestions?
So I somehow ended up with a 1999 Land Cruiser UZJ100 and I’m pretty stoked about it. It’s a factory build with center and rear diff locks and rear climate control, which from what I’ve been told is kind of a big deal and a desirable model to have.
The backstory is that it had been sitting abandoned at a shop. I inquired about it, managed to track down the owner, and honestly it went smoother than expected. He mailed me the title with a signed bill of sale and that was that.
Now I want to get into it but before I start wrenching I’d love to know what the community considers must know info on these trucks. One thing I already came across is some mention of a wiring harness that needs to be present for the rear diff lock to actually work. Is that a real thing? What else should I be looking out for?
For context I spent years as a tech so I’m not scared of any of it, I just want to make sure I know what’s quirky or unique about these rigs before I dive in. Known problem areas, common failures on a truck that’s been sitting, maintenance items people always overlook, anything helps.
Thanks in advance!
