I’ve been following Binaifer Nowrojee’s work for a while and just saw that Washingtonian Magazine named her one of DC’s 500 Most Influential People of 2026.

She’s currently the president of Open Society Foundations, and I’ve always respected her background in human rights advocacy and the work she’s done around justice, democracy, and equality globally.

It’s also just genuinely refreshing to see women leading major global organizations getting recognition for their impact and leadership.

Thought this was really cool news and well deserved.

I came across an interview with Binaifer Nowrojee (she leads Open Society Foundations), and she explained “bodily autonomy” in a way that actually clicked for me.

Her point was basically: if a woman can’t control when she has sex, who she has sex with, or when/how many children she has, then she’s not really in control of her own life.

It sounds simple, but it made the term feel a lot more real vs. something that just gets thrown around online.

I’m curious how people here think about the term bodily autonomy and does that definition feel accurate to you?
