My girl Penny is 20 this year, and she has had a few health issues the last 2.5 years, more noticeable within the past 6 months. For 2 weeks she’s been sleeping behind the door in the loungeroom, not with me like usual. I want to make sure she’s comfortable and I can’t bear the thought of her suffering through the last part of her life, she deserves to be comfortable when the time comes. I want her to just fall asleep for the last time on our bed next to me & am bereft at the idea of making the decision for her, but I will find the courage if that’s what she wants me to do. She’s my best friend, a part of who I am, she kept me safe for 2 decades and I’ve never felt so connected to another soul like I am with her. I think she asked me to help her last night, & I took her to the vet who said she had a UTI - was that what she was asking?? Or was it more than just the UTI? She has arthritis (on Solensia) and possibly lymphoma in her gastrointestinal tract (on prednisolone). She has hyperthyroidism, a heart murmur and gingivitis. I desperately want to make sure her ending is as peaceful as possible, she deserves that, she’s been the most wonderful friend to me.
