Worried about my mother, who is having open hysterectomy next month :(
Hi everyone - I'm (20F) pretty worried about my mom (50F). She's got a reasonably large 10cm fibroid and a poor physical disposition in general. The fibroid has been making her so unwell she can barely do anything and mostly sleeps around all day, and so I'm very concerned about her recovery.
I'll be staying at home this summer to do all the chores full-time but I'm not sure how to help with recovery itself. If you've had a similar procedure, what were the things you would've liked people to do for you? And are there particular foods that I should be ready to prepare to help with recovery?
ETA: She's also very prone to infection and has had many - is there anything to be done to prevent this post-op?
And people who have been in a caring position how do you stay sane :'(? I just had to finish university this past month while looking after my mom and it's been so hard that I'm worried about my mental stamina for the next 3-4 months or so.
