Behind every person there is a shadow, a black world he cannot see, because his eyes are not looking. This thing, that creeps up behind you, telling you of danger, of the unknown. You can never anticipate.
That is probably why, we prefer to be in front of a wall, because it allows for more of the sense that there is no world behind us, that like our senses don’t exist, so does the world behind does not exist. If nothing exists, nothing can hurt me, therefore I don’t need to sense it anyway.
Our consciousness allows us to sense the world, and wants to sense it all, sensing and understanding is our key to higher functions. Like the function of moving one’s hand, it can happen without consciousness knowing it did that, but the movement knowingly happens anyway, responds with an action with higher brain areas, and responding accordingly without being aware of it at all. Imagine seeing one’s friend, and seeing yourself wave your hand towards him, realize you did that, without realizing you wanted to do that.
This strengthens the idea of consciousness being the observer, not the performer. The hard reality that our consciousness is merely a passenger to an all thought of plan, nothing in your consciousness’s ability to control.
