hello.

for some reason, my parents dont want me to start a savings account but as a freshman studying for their bachelors starting fall 2026, i want to start a savings account or just a savings in general for my own peace of mind. i would rather have money on hand in case anything happens, without burdening my parents with the financial pressure of emergencies.

i currently have one account with wells fargo that my parents also have access to. its how they send me money for going out with friends as i don't currently work. they check my transactions at least once a week and im very thankful that they send me money when i need it but i want to start an account that isnt tied to my parents. and so i want to keep the two accounts separate but im not sure how i should differentiate what goes into each account. i am planning on working this summer and during the school year as well (starting august).

i guess what i need help on is, what are some banks that i can create a savings account with? i want for it to accumulate as much as it can because i don't have a lot of money to my name right now. i'm considering cutx as there is a branch close to my high school and i can make the account right before/after school starts so my parents dont suspect me of anything. the money going into the savings account woud be cash that i have saved up.
